Positive Outcomes Psychology
At Positive Outcomes Psychology, we specialise in helping people overcome emotional challenges that originate in their childhood, heal from past trauma and unlock their full potential. Through evidence-based therapies such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) we guide clients toward emotional healing, greater resilience and lasting well-being.

While EMDR is widely known for its power in treating trauma, it is less well known for its ability to address the everyday negative core beliefs that shape our thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. These beliefs, often developed in childhood, can subtly influence how we perceive ourselves and interact with the world.
Negative Core Beliefs: The Hidden Influences on Our Lives
Many of us carry core beliefs like "I'm not good enough," "I can't trust others," or "I don't deserve success," which were formed early in life. These beliefs often stem from everyday experiences—such as parental messages, peer interactions, or early life challenges—that leave a lasting impact. While not always traumatic, these beliefs can quietly dictate how we feel, think, and behave on a daily basis, often limiting our potential and happiness.
How EMDR Helps Process and Release These Beliefs
EMDR can effectively target and reprocess these negative core beliefs, even if they are not linked to specific traumatic events. Through bilateral stimulation, EMDR helps neutralize the emotional charge attached to these beliefs, allowing you to see them for what they truly are—false conclusions formed during childhood, not a reflection of your true self.
The Result: Greater Freedom in How You Live
As EMDR works to reframe and release these ingrained beliefs, you’ll start to notice profound shifts in how you interact with yourself and others. You’ll feel less burdened by self-doubt, guilt, or fear, and more open to positive experiences. Ultimately, EMDR empowers you to break free from the limitations of negative core beliefs, creating lasting change in how you make decisions, approach relationships, and experience life.

EMDR THERAPY
People see an EMDR-trained psychologist if they are struggling with trauma, anxiety, or negative emotions that are difficult to overcome through traditional talk therapy. EMDR is a proven, evidence-based therapy that helps individuals process and heal from past traumatic experiences by reducing their emotional intensity and enabling healthier responses. Whether dealing with PTSD, childhood abuse, phobias, or grief, EMDR can help reframe distressing memories, alleviate symptoms, and promote lasting emotional healing. This approach is particularly effective for those who have found limited relief with other therapeutic methods, offering a faster and more targeted path to recovery.
EMDR is a psychological therapy developed by psychologist Francine Shapiro in 1987. It is one of the most researched treatments in psychology, and is recognised by The World Health Organisation as the number one treatment for PTSD.
EMDR uses eye movements to unblock emotional processes that have been stagnant due to distress, you can reprogram your brain, in a sense, to begin to heal from the fear and pain associated with trauma and emotional distress. It does not require talking in detail about the distressing issues or homework between sessions.

EMDR allows you to gain a new perspective that can facilitate improved self-esteem and enhance your personal beliefs about your capabilities.
